Hey boys and girls

I will be sending Lance another set of plans for the Library of plans this week. This is will be a Bolt-on 14 fret 25.4 scale 1 3/4 nut 2 1/4 joint jazz or straight heel with 3" radius smile volute and L shaped neck block. Please keep in mind Lance and the development team are having some issue with gaining access to the input for the Library of Plans so it may take a while for this and my classical bolt-on to show up and be available for purchase. Hopefully it will not be to long. A bolt-on 12 fret slotted peghead 24.9” scale to come soon.

By the way the neck block width is designed so that a cutaway side will be flush with the heel.

Thanks Michael!
Your plans are always to a fine and exacting degree, and great quality, from all accounts!!
We are ultra fortunate to have such a consumate draftsman here at the OLF to present us such offerings!
Its not the easiest thing for some brains, I was just sitting down thinking about the neck on the plans Im building #1 from, and considering how to make certain alterations potentially,,, my head was spinning in no time...
Thanks again!
Cheers
Charlie

Are you going to offer these as CAD files?

No sir what I donate to the OLF is DWF files that Lance has printed and that is what is what is sold by the forum. While this does not eliminate the possibility of sharing the drawings with someone that did not pay for a set it does keep it to a minimum. After all the whole point and intent of me donating them to the forum is for the forum to sell copies to help support the forum financially.

I know everyone thinks this should all be free but then there would be no added financial aid for the forum. It is kind of like being a subscribing member sponsor. You don’t have to do it but by doing so you help keep this forum up and running. That is the same concept to offering up plans in the Library of Plans.

Once again If the forum offered them in DWG format then sooner or later there are copies of it everywhere on everyone’s cad system that the forum did not receive the reward for.

There is talk about maybe having a free cad library to those that wish to donate to it and that is fine but the Library of Plans is a revenue generating project to help support the forum. And that is where the work I donate will go to.

I dont think any of the plans you donate to the OLF (or have made period) should be free.. if thats your wish
and I dont think any reasonable member here would think so either...
The files I spoke of (in the file discussion prior to this) that I felt should be offered freely - are only ones that are in the public domain already - upped for the purpose of being freely shared...(of which there are a few floating around)

Plans (or whatever else) that someone creates, should be done with, in whatever way the author stipulates - and these drawings are no exception - Id be happy to buy a set of these,,, thanks for these and the other you have made,,,
Cheers
Charlie
PS if someone really wants to share a set of these type of (sale) plans
->give them away when you have absorbed the knowledge in them,
this way its a sacrifice on the part of the initial buyer,,, to not have them as reference material any longer...

I always understood that. But there were the comments that this was an avenue of free exchange of ideas and that I or the forum should provide the plans in DWG format and I should not worry if someone freely shared the drawings with others as the information was out there to get anyway. And this is true. But the point that was hard to get every one to understand was that offering plans in the pay for “Library of Plans” helped the support the forum and a free library would sooner or later offer some thing on the same order as offerings in the “Library of Plans “ and detract from the its sales.

Many said that that was not an issue as it seemed the “Library of Plans” was always out of stock and it took months to get what you paid for anyway. This is has been an honest gripe. But to defend Lance and Brock they made arrangements with several printers that fell through on their end and the one that was going to handle distribution as well as the printing went out of business according to Brock. Lance is working on getting things up and running again I know the Library of Plans works and is beneficial to the forum from sale numbers of the SJ and OM plans our members and guests bought, and many, many of you graciously thanked me personally for the plans and spoke of their quality.

If Lance and Brock would agree I am willing to submit all my plans to a cad library in DWG or DXF format but I would only do so if this was a premium library that the forum was paid an annual subscription fee to use and if that fee was substantial enough to replace the Library of Plans annual income when spread over the expected membership anything less than that I expect would not be worth Lance’s or Brock’s administration time.

Also I never read anywhere where Lance or Brock chimed in with their thoughts of a cad library are and I can’t even begin to speak for their point of view on this.

To those interested in a cad library I suggest you PM Lance and Brock and run your thoughts by them. I will help support and contribute to a free cad library with various things but no full plans sets till when and if we have a subscription based cad library. If that ever happened I would be glad to put plan sets in there. Even knowing my work could then be plagiarized easily. Be assured I am not really worried about our general membership doing so. But as I have said before, those of us here are not the only ones that can subscribe and not every one is as caring about each other and their work as you guys
