Here's an experiment, to see if I can navigate the new forum.
This guitar was built with much help from the folks from the OLF.
Brian Hawkins supplied the Oregon Myrtle.
John Kinnaird supplied the Bearclaw Sitka top.
Bocote bindings were the courtesy of Joshua French.

Thanks for the kind remarks. I'm a fan of Myrtle myself, only it's a bit hard to get a good color match with the trad. neck woods.

Lovely guitar - aren't 12 fretters cool!! The Myrtle looks really lovely and the bocote really contrasts well as a binding. Very elegant. I know what you mean about the neckwoods - it's a similar thing matching with Black limba. Can you use myrtle as a neck wood suitably laminated?

Dave, thanks. It sounds like all the rest of the woods.
I mean that Myrtle sounds a great deal like it has a Sitka top on it.
What I'm really trying to say is that it doesn't sound like rosewood.
Maybe something more like mahogany crossed with walnut....

Highlight of the weekend, another Kinnaird guitar, always a treat! It looks subtle and very well matched. I like the contast of the bocote with the mytle and spruce. Cherry necks are always a good match for the lighter body colours, but I like the one on it. The quality of your workmanship is a given, so great guitar as usual.

I see you brother has found a good place to dump his sitka! (Sorry couldn't let the opportunity pass.)

WOW!! the "heel" close up show what craftsmanship is in this guitar! I think the color match between the body,binding and neck are beautiful.

Thanks for the extra pics - love that Myrtle and the bocote looks great too! I am planning to use either rock or flamed maple necks on the myrtle bodies, just trying to match the light woods. I am having a hard time deciding on the binding scheme, I may borrow the bocote idea, but I am waiting on macassar ebony to come in to see how it looks together.

Maybe I'll start a new post to get some input from the forum.....once I learn how to post pics!

Dave W--sorry not to get all the questions. Yes, 12 fretters are the coolest. So cool, in fact, I'm considering an 11 fret!
And why not try a Myrtle neck? Like you suggested, in a laminated form I'd have no reservations making one. In fact, I ordered a plank of curly Myrtle for this very thing. (It's for an upcoming project.) Got it from Bruce Creps, a great guy and superb vendor.

Colin--many thanks for your more than kind words. Cherry necks, especially your variety which is lighter, would probably look just fine on the myrtle. Or course each piece has to be considered. My set here has more green in it than shows in the photo. You've got a color war when pairing greenish w/ reddish, so care is essential. I went ahead and used the mahog not because I loved it, as much as the fact that everyone is fairly used to seeing a mahog neck...even on the lighter woods like maple. As far as my bro dumping more Sitka on me, I can only say "Amen, bro!" "Dump away!"

Laurie--I think the Macassar would look classic. As for the Bocote, I know you'll like it, especially if your Myrtle set has a greenish tint. The maple neck would look fine. I was looking at the hardwood rack at our local Lowe's, thinking about their poplar. Some of that stuff looks a perfect match for the myrtle, and used judiciously should work as a neck timber

Anthony, I know what you mean about post titles. I realized that my wording lacked "punch", but it really was just an experiment. I had no assurance that I could navigate the new software just yet. Only today I figured out some of the tricks on the PM section. Anyway, thanks for the kind words.

Here's the rosette, which makes my fourth (or fifth) try at posting.
I think I'm getting the hang of this....
The rosette is Imbuia burl, Like the headstock.
Seemed to fit the color palette, like Colin keeps urging.

Steve, I've just got to say again, fabulous looking guitar from one of my favourite builders. Yes you seem to have got the hang of the colour pallete. The whole guitar just blends together really well, with the various parts complimenting and promoting each other. One of those guitars that the pictures are safely stored away for future inspiration.

Great looking guitar! By my coming in late with belated praise this thread is resurrected from the back pages. You can thank me next week and between the two us, we can keep this thread front and center for quite some time.
I really like that bacote (sp?) trim. It looks better than I thought it would. I think I'll try it soon. The whole guitar is very well appointed and as Colin mentions well coordinated.
That top looks good too. I'll dump some more on you if you like.
Of course what I really like is the Calvin and Hobbs avatar
