hey all,

at the risk of showing how novice i am at building guitars i started on an om (martin style, based on the martin plan from stewmac) project a couple of years ago and recently picked it up again. i purchased the back and sides from lmii and i can't remember the measurements that the sides need to be before i start bending. thanks to anyone that can help.

Hey leerobs42 (Lee?)! I am building an OM now but from a slightly different
plan. It is 4" at the tailblock, and the sides are somewhere near 32", so 4
1/2" by 34" or so should be in the ballpark. Do you not have a set of plans?
If you have a set add some allowance to the finished dimensions. If not, you
need some! Good luck.

If you have the pans take a cloth tape measure like the tailors use and measure the sides of the plan and add a couple inches to the final length to be safe.

Looks like you're there but I just measured a 1931 OM, the tail block height (total, from top to bottom including back and sides of course) is 4 1/16,  neck block is 3 5/16.  Maybe that will help as well.

Oops, should have read "including top and back" on the readings, wish we could edit these things though I'd probably wear out that feature in a day or so....
