In the Milburn tutprial they describe how to apply the intitial base coats to avoid bleeding. In a nutshell, I wet a cloth and drag it along the bindings and purflings in 1 stroke and then refold to a clean section. After that I fill in between them. As you drag along the edges it will overlap onto the plates some and it is important when you are putting the initial seal coats to the plates that you try to blend these edges together to avoid extra build-up here(especially if you are trying to avoid having to level sand). After 2 or three coats like this you will see no more rosewood color on the cloth as you wipe and then you can begin your build coats as normal. Hope that helps!
