AZ (Anthony) yeah Alman Bros is great building music indeed, before that it was Leslie West.

Robert I use finger planes for the vast majority of shaping and a sharp chisel for the ends.  To protect the back strip from the corners of the planes (the back strip is installed first in one piece) I place a piece of .005 mylar over it and then blue tape over the mylar next to the brace.  The planes just nicely then ride over the hump and the back strip stays neat.

Greg they are pretty white and I was thinking that too.  The braces are Adi but still it's pretty white stuff you are right.

Andy Lance's is purdier but I am trying to catch up.  Let's see how these braces look when I get them inlet into the "kerfed linings."

Thanks Bill but no more tutorials from me but relax my meaning is different than it sounds.  The use of the word "tutorial" was wrong of me to do and Todd's use of "one method" is what I will do going forward if I do any more "one method" threads.

Yum, yum Michael I love sweet potato pie  Yep that's at the Filmore East - one of the best live albums I have ever heard and bought several times in my life.  The recording is not the best but still the performance is incredible.

I think you are speaking to me Hesh since I don't see an Andy post.Thats fine since my nickname IS Andy .... I Agree ,Lets see how your inlet lining cuts compare to Lances superb work.I'm sure they will be equal. We're getting a competition going here...

I think I went to sleep while Statesboro blues played, the entire 4 years of college. Like I have always felt that that performance was incredible I think I wore out 4 or 5 LPs before I got smart and recorded it on my reel to reel.

Hesh, do you use a jig for shaping your braces?  Actually, I bet you do your work outside and just bring it inside for the photos

Sorry Dave but your name has two first names in it so you can understand the mistake on my part.......  I would not want to compete with Lance for inletting, he is the king.

Michael I still have this album in an LP that was only ever played a few times only to tape it onto my old reel to reel and then a cassette too.  So it's in perfect condition.

Don thanks for the validation my friend!  I also vacuum my planes and hand tools after every use.........  See ya on the ward and maybe we can play checkers for bridge pins.....

Ricardo I use finger planes mostly for these triangular shaped braces.  But it starts with a center line marker that I use to scribe the middle of the top of the brace.  My brace stock is planed just proud of the height that I want so that the center line scribed indentation can be planed away as the last step.  Sometimes it takes me a couple of tries to get the slight amount of flex that I want in a back so I start taller and work down.

Here is a shot of the finished back complete with plastic cover over the label.

Hesh, that's eye-candy for all who will ever gaze inside. I'm with Kim: it just screams (er, sings) of form follows function.

BTW, in the first picture, at about 4:00, there is an immense chunk of spruce that just ruins the photo for me. I may have to PhotoShop it out, since you missed it with the vacuum.

Sure James - all four braces are 1/4" wide at the base.  The two longest braces located on the lower bout are 7/16th" high in the center and taper toward the ends to match the 15' dome of the back.

The two upper bout braces are 1/2" high in the center and also slightly taper with the back's dome.

I wanted the lower bout braces less stiff by design so that I can have a slight amount of flex in the lower bout.  The upper bout I wanted stiffer where the neck joins the body.  Just remember this is my thinking on the objectives that I am trying to achieve and I am not sure what will result so YMMV.

Bill sorry my friend the only extra that I had went to another OLFer but I'll post a link to Tower Hobbies when I find one.  These things are .69 cents and a great time saver.  As for a "OM" or "one method" when I get to the top I see what I can do.

Dennis my friend I never miss an opportunity to meet with other builders so the inside, and how neat it all is, is important to me.  I know in advance that even when my guitars are at the finisher Tony Ferguson guys will be checking it out.  It kind of puts some pressure on me.....  But I will only be building this guitar once so why not build it as best as I know how right?

Regarding the chunk  They say that the difference between "dumb' and "stupid" is that when one is dumb they make a mistake, when one is stupid they make the same mistake twice.  With this said there is NO WAY I am going to encourage you to fire up your Photoshop........
