What is your favorite shape or plans for a parlour guitar?
What wood combos have worked best for you?

I've made 2 so far from the Antes plan available from LMI (see Terry Kennedy's recent thread). Antes' plans are typically over-braced and require some discretion in making them lighter in the right places.

As far as wood combinations...of the 2 (redwood/walnut and sitka/cherry) the sitka/cherry is significantly more musical to everyone who has heard both...but I'm sure someone could do magic with almost any quality top wood.

I second JJ on the Antes' plans, and add that they need to be at least 24.9" scale, if not 25.4". Those short scales he notes make a poor sounding and playing guitar, IMO.

I have a P-09 pommelle bubinga that I play all the time with the low E dropped to D.  I don’t play full drop D.  I’m always surprised how good it sounds dropping to D.  It’s much fuller that I expect for a parlor and not much of an issue with intonation or rattle/buzzing.  I like the short scale, and I’m 6’5”.  Now if I pick it up after playing on of my large bodied guitars or course it sounds thin.  I also have an L-09 Koa and D-09 BRW w/ traditional neck from Larrivee.  I find myself playing the P-09 the majority of the time followed by the L-09.  The D-09 BRW is a distant third, even though it cost more than the others combined.  Kind of makes me regret getting it in lieu of something else such as a 000-60, but its still a nice instrument.

Is there a difference between a parlor guitar and a baritone uke?IF not maybe you could use a Hanalima plan.

Todd.

Yes, I did a mahogany and sitka Antes small concert in 24.5" and built it as light as I could. Although the customer loves it for what it is, a travel or "river" guitar, after 1 year I played it and it had come up some, but the loose strings were not my cup of tea, maybe with medium ga. strings, but I have only played it with lights.

This isn't exactly the Antes' parlor, or as he calls it "after Bruno 1890" I think they are close enough alike to warrant my preference for 24.9" unless terz tuning is in view.
