Zach, I'll look thru the makore for more of that fiddleback figure, but not sure I have it. For sure I have block mottle, beeswing and other stuff. I'll be cutting more for the swap meet and will give you a heads up..THANKS!!

Ken, I don't have any two piece backs, but I do have a 4 piece back set (with sides) I've stuck aside for myself to have a guitar made for me. I also have a fingerboard and bridge matched from the same billet.

I can make a few 3 or 4 piece backs from my old growth stock, but I have an order for 100 BRW fingerboards which will deplete the stock considerable. This is really old stock, straight grain, mostly dark and the billets have actual company "brands" stamped on the ends.

The koa is light weight and the tap tone brings a smile to my face.

I really like that keyaki. I found several pictures on the net of keyaki chests, tansu, and bowls. Most had a much darker finish. I wonder if it darkens with age or whether it was stained.

I can see it now - zen monks chanting "Om mani padme hum" and ripping off breaks on their pre-war keyaki dreads.

Will you have time to cut another set?

Your Google search probably turned up a lot of Asian "keyaki" restaurants, also. I've always thought there was a market for Keyaki guitars within the guitar playing monk society.

It does photo degrade as does all wood surface subjected to direct UV, but it retains it's color well. That set was cut about 18 months ago, but has been stored in a stack of sets.

I have at least one more cut out and ready, but can cut several more sets.

Hi Shawn, I did manage to get a couple Ceylon Satinwood sets done today, but that and paperwork is about all. I'll post the photos and consider your request as first claim so please pick one soon as possible. They are sister sets.

I managed to get two Ceylon Satinwood sets done today and a bunch of paperwork..and a big rack of pork ribs grilled!!

I won't be posting new wood until Monday.

Several woods are traded under the "satinwood" name, but Ceylon Satinwood (species Chloroxylon swietenia) is the real deal. The specific gravity is .98 (average) which puts it into the ebony class for weight and density. Do a Google search on Ceylon Satinwood guitars for some interesting reading on who likes it for classicals.

Just for giggles, here's the Satinwood being cut in the shop today. The side blank came from the timber sitting on the saw. As Satinwood logs go, this was a pretty big one. That's a 2.5" thick QS (from the log center) Satinwood timber sitting on the cart. This is the resawing/sanding room in my main shop building (about 4,000sf) and I have a few other storage buildings in the complex.

1/2 rack of pork ribs .... priceless
