Thanks for posting this. I found that my 1st 3 rounds of making forms were pretty painful... The various slices weren't really the same shape and it took a lot of sanding on the spindle sander to sort it back out... Then - the mold didn't really match the template all that well and wasn't really symmetrical. Subsequently - I saw your method and it went a lot faster and was a lot more precise. One suggestion. Rout the 1st layer of the stack from your template. Then glue and screw the next slice to that. Rout it to match. Glue and screw the next layer onto that one.. Then rout to match. Viola - completed mold half... You never have to take it back apart and re-align all the slices when you disassemble, glue, and reassemble. To make the 2nd side - screw the 4th slice to your 1st side just like before except no glue. Rout, unscrew, and you now have your 1st piece for the 2nd side. Repeat the process of gluing, screwing, and routing 2 more pieces till done. Then - assemble exactly like you did. |
