I have a client inquiry re pickup change on a '37 Gibson L-30 -
Quote:
Appears the current pick-up is top mounted and I may prefer to change for a different type, Would need new pickguard and at least 1 control for vol ideally positioned under the pickguard, a small wheel control type which would largely be concealed beneath would be ideal I think.

Looking at the available offerings none appear to have an integrated volume control.
Schatten Thumbwheel Controls are available and should mount under a floating pickguard.
Can a Schatten Thumbwheel Control be fitted into the system for an internal or bridge fitted pickup system, like K & K https://kksound.com/products/purefloatingbridge.php or maybe the fishman archtop guitar pickup https://www.fishman.com/products/series/classic/archtop-guitar-pickup/ - ?

I had a case a while back where a customer wanted to remove his UST and install a K&K Mini, but keep the original controls. K&K recommended against it - they said that even tho they were both piezos the impedances wouldn't match or there was some other issue. I just called their help line and they were very helpful. There are some models of K&K's that have a volume control but are still passive (no battery or preamp). I'll bet they could put together just what you need.

I have used the thumbwheels with traditional floating jazz pickups. But they are only available in one impedance. I have seen the small alpha pots mounted through a pick guard so the body drops into the top of the F-hole which would allow a choice of ohms.
