Hi all, I recently bought an Epiphone Sheraton, and have done all the things you expect to do with an inexpensive production guitar: fret dress, replace bad switches. But the nut. I was planning to cut a bone nut in any case, but the production nut sits oddly on the neck. I am new to electrics, and Epiphones in general. But is it normal for the nut to be twice the width of the landing it sits on? Next question: when i cut the new nut, should I 1) copy the existing one, and put a shim underneath where the space is now, or 2) get a file and drop the entire landing down to the lowest point, and carve a taller nut, or 3) create a nut with a base shaped like the existing landing? Thanks! --Paul |

I do not think that is the original nut. For the new nut I might take option 4, make a new nut the width of the existing landing. |

I agree with Brian, that's not the original nut. Make a new one and match the width and angle of the existing landing. |

Not original... And I notice the bottom shelf is angled. You'll need a Martin style nut blank, or cut one from bone being careful to match the angle on the bottom. |
