It is a Gibson LG1. Only numbers on this guitar are on the neck block (a FON?). It does not follow the numbering of any I've seen before (surprise, surprise). Looks like it was doubled stamped, is that a hand written "Z" or a 2 on the lower number? Could this be a 1952 (Z) model? Any help appreciated. |

That's a FON. And would appear to date it as made in the early part of 1952. The handwritten Z goes along with that as a stamp may not have been available until latter in the year.... |

The stamp doesn't look like any I've been able to find, so i am thinking as well it was one of the very early models. Later models had a Z followed by a 4 digit batch number (this guitar only has 3 digits) and then the number indicating the position in the batch (in this case 8). Still hoping I can find someone that has seen this format on other early 52 Gibsons.

Neck reset, new bridge, the original is gone and been replaced by a Guild bridge and to make matters worse it has a double set of pin holes drilled (so I'll be repairing the bridge plate), minor fret work and owner wants a K&K mini installed.
