Hey guys, I think there's been a thread on this before, but I couldn't find it - so I apologize if this is doubled. I've always been of the notion that oiling a fingerboard is not necessary, and in some cases a detriment. However, I don't know why that is. I had a friend ask about oiling his Fingerboards on a couple of gibson archtops, and was asking me to recommend a type of product for ebony or rosewood. Are there any merits to oiling a fingerboard infrequently? Also, do any such products react poorly I finishes (I build classicals and only ever french polish - don't know anything about other finishes.) |

I use Howard's Feed and Wax - and only on the fretboard. I do mine about once a year after a light scrub with 0000 steel wool. I'll use it on repairs unless the fret board looks brand new. I always liked canning wax. It's cheap, rubs in with a cloth rag and steel wools down nicely. Once done, yer done. |

I use the stuff from Stew Mac . Mainly because I bought it early when I started and didn't realize there were many more options . Now that I have it , oh well it does work good |
