Hi. I need to refret Fender Telecaster. Usually after the operation I use acrylic clear laque. But the original laque is a bit yellowish. How can I get as close to the original color as possible? Thanks. |

What is the finish on there now? I use Nitrocellulose lacquer and mix Transtint (or Colortone) dye. i also sometimes mix the dye with shellac and clear over it. The Transtint colors I have are honey amber and dark vintage maple. I can usually blend those to get a close color. |

I removed the lacquer. The wood has dark hue in those places where the lacquer was removed by players' fingers I think several years ago. I sanded the fretboard a little but the dark hue remains (I tried to show it on photos - it is between the nut and first fret under the six string, as well as in the other most playable places which I didn't show on the photos ). Is it possible to make the wood of the fretboard to have one color, without those dark stains? |

A bit of wood bleach should remove the stains. The finish doesn't look all that yellowed to me. How well does the fretboard match the original finish when it is wet with naptha? |
