Looks like he may wind up being one of your best customers if he has a drink to many and this is the result.

Its sad in one respect they asked 1900 to do a broken headstock repair on a1300 dollar guitar. All they will accomplish is losing customers

I would have a hard time sending a guitar back to Gibson for a repair that is largely a result of their' own poor neck design. I would charge around $600 for the way I did my own LP headstock repair.

Broken Gibson stuff on eBay frequently.
Also perfectly good new guitars, stripped of all parts (WTH?).

Was at Atlanta Guitar Center recently to get a case for my last build. Showed it to the guitar guy and he said it was better than the new gibsons. Said their QC has gone into the trash can as he showed me a LP with the strings almost hanging off the fretboard. Maybe they don't want to sell guitars anymore?

Many repair guys won't touch G*bson warranty work with a 10' pole.... G*bson has a pretty bad reputation with repair folks for not only declining quality.... but also being a poor payer for authorized warranty repair centers. Who needs it...

For retailers same crap, different day, G*bson insists on dealer terms including minimum inventory levels as well as how inventory is promoted that many Mom and Pop stores have also walked away from.

Also if you visit the repair centric forums you will find a lot of G*bson bashing, deservedly so for very poor quality these days.... G*bson also uses PLEK machines but seemingly just a minimal number of passes because the results absolutely suck....

It's a crying shame too because many of us are huge fans of G*bson production when it was done back in the day here in Michigan. The Montana acoustic instruments seem to be benefiting from being away from he mother ship in terms of where they are produced because they still can be pretty nice in many respects.

Sadly though these days G*bson is becoming much more well known for poor quality, over priced.... living off their past laurels offerings, predatory and unfair practices with dealers and repair folks, and a CEO who thinks it's appropriate to illegally poach either endangered species of wood or embargoed species of wood and then after getting caught write an op ed piece in the WSJ claiming that Obama stays up late at night scheming and plotting on ways to single G*bson out when G*bson gets caught poaching....

Narcism seems to be alive and well on mahogany row at G*bson....

My nephew's wife bought him a Goldtop for his birthday a couple of years ago. When he showed it to me, I saw that the binding was about a 1/16" shy of the top where the upper bout and neck meet. There were also a couple of nibs in the finish. I just kept my mouth shut, as he was quite happy with it.
Some of the guitars I see on the Electric forum put Gibson to shame.

Really?

Care to reveal the source of that information?

I spoke to the Gibson folks at the NAMM show in January and talked of warranty service - they made no mention of such a policy, or of discontinuing "field" warranty service work.

I talked to a Repair shop who like yourself is a Gibson Repair to see if he could get me the replacement neck . He said they told him that he could not get the parts and the ONLY way it would be fixed was in Their shop . Can You get me the Parts?

Now maybe my "assumption" went to far . Thats possible , however it still stands that I am not getting parts or even pricing on parts .

I don't blame them, necessarily, but it sure doesn't make life easy for a repairman.
