Rank amateur here and was wondering what your opinions were on alternative wood for bridges and pins. I have some Ipe left over from a project that is enough to make a bridge and certainly enough for at least 10 sets of pins. Just wondering if it would be too dense for good transfer of sound. SG is very high on this wood (there are many types sold under that name in US-this is the denser variety sinks in water) |

Ebony sinks, too, and we all like it for bridges. Ipe won't be too dense, and it seems like another good choice for a bridge. |

Frank, thanks for the reply. I was actually talking about this particular piece of Ipe. At times I think any wood from South America is sold as Ipe in some places. Learned the hard way on some I was working. LOL I'll give it a try. Thanks again for the reply Phil |

Ipe would be great! Nice grain, harder than the hubs of He_l. And if you make pins, I want a set! They would be hard to tear up and would look nice. |
