I have been kicking around a restoration challenge. 1 year length of time . Item to restore is decision of the entrant .... any interest?

I dunno - seems a bit iffy to actively encourage tampering with instruments worthy of restoration as an open-entry competition. I foresee a lot of "oh my god what are you doing!", and "for the love of C.F. Martin, stop before all vintage value is destroyed" in this sort of challenge.

Even among skilled enthusiasts, there are already enough vintage artifacts being damaged by lack of conservation ethic or sense of appropriate balance between restoration and preservation. Encouraging folks to take on restorations for sport could easily increase casualties in the population of vintage instruments (along with controversy in the community).

Let those who decide to post restorations do so as they see fit, but I wouldn't encourage folks to actively seek out such projects for a competition unless it were closed entry of select craftsmen (of which I believe very few who are truly qualified would be at all interested). Short of that, and I think you'd be entering a painful year of preservation arguments, and screeches of horror from controversial choices or questionable execution.

I can see the interest, but also the year's supply of canned worms and plenty of land mines in such an event.

Good points , how about a low value restoration that people could feel free to do as seen fit
