Are there any places to get vintage parts like tuners & such? I'm doing a fresher upper on an old Regal parlor guitar (the one in the other thread), and I was just gonna get some tuning machines from Stewmac. The owner asked about the possibility of finding some vintage tuners for it. I had to admit I hadn't thought of it and would check it out. I've done the "easy" research (Ebay and various google searches and came up empty. There are some killer replicas out there, but they're all high dollar, and this little guitar is sweet, but does not justify $150 tuners. Can you guys point me in a direction I'm unaware of? I'm new to all this and I'm not shy about learning from those who know things I don't. Thanks. |

There ARE vintage parts on eBay. I've seen them, and most of them are overpriced. |

Most all the time, vintage parts tend not to work well. They are after all "used" and most of them WELL used. Gears and worms get really worn out. I've got a whole box of mandolin junk tuners from old Gibsons. The StewMac Golden Age tuners are cheap enough and work relatively well. http://www.stewmac.com/Hardware_and_Par ... d_Peghead/ |

Bill, Ken Mckay uses a chemical process to age hardware. Ken makes wonderful ES 355 style guitars. Maybe do a search or contact him. Dan |
