Post subject:  Georg Piegendorfer Violin

I was brought an old violin for repair that has no label inside but the case, which is literally falling apart, has a metal plate inside that reads "Gg. Piegendorfer's Nachf." along the top line and "Augsburg" along the bottom. In between are a few other words in German.

I looked it up and Georg Piegendorfer was a German maker who died in 1906 but I could not find any other information other than he was productive between 1880 and 1906. Does anyone have any information about him? About possible values for his violins? Any other way to tell if he actually built this one?

Thanks,
Chuck

Try posting this and any other info you have along with some pictures on Maestronet's Pegbox forum. You may have an easier time finding someone who can help you identify this one and find the info you're looking for. Post the pictures here as well if you can.

It's impossible to say if he made the violin because of what it says in the case. Violins are notorious for having the cases swapped over the years.
