I went through a couple of apprentices who thought it was going to be all fun and games working on guitars, and found out it involved a lot of elbow action smoothing out wood, frets, or finishes. Only two ever completed my course, and one of them had to make a couple runs at it before he settled down and realized it was actual work.

It's no different than getting paid to play music live. You are delighted to be onstage and entertaining the masses. You'd almost do it for free. I always told them the price of admission was paying me back for all those years learning fingerings, scales, exercises, and rehearsing.

I just realized I never buttoned this thread up. I got the guitar finished, and it turned out really good. The customer was so happy playing the guitar for the first time. Lots of smiles!
