This fits the miscellaneous more than the shapes, but for a while in there I was making drums. The toms in this set were veneered in Karelian Birch, the bass was painted with chalk board paint. Veneering the shells was a PITA. I basically had to cut out a million little circles out of construction foam to stuff into the shell so the vacuum wouldn't turn them into 5-ply maple ovals. |

This custom shape is from my Campfire Series. It is called "Allanque Lowaneu". A native American term for "Star of the North". Top is Engelmann spruce, sides are African Mahogany, Back is Ovangkol with inlay. Binding is Curly Sycamore. Binded Madagascar Ebony fretboard. The rosette was made out of a Silver Maple stick my son, Wyatt (3 at the time found in the backyard. He told me I could have his stick to make a guitar out of it. So I made the rosette out of it. I cut it on the bias and it worked out great. One of my favorite guitars. |

This one rattled around in my addled brain for a few years before it finally took shape. I've always like the petite upper bout of the L-00, and added more padding to the derriere. Attachment: DSC_0008 - Version 3.jpg Attachment: DSC_0077 - Version 5.jpg Attachment: DSC_0028 - Version 2.jpg

made this some years ago; in pieces and hasn't seen action in some time(like a lot of my stuff)....just made it for the sake of wackiness. a notable memory was watching as a buddy ripped out a blues solo on it in a basement jam, eyes soulfully closed like carlos santana. hilarious actually |

Can't post photos anymore, but couldn't agree more...my Concert and Grand Concert. http://www.brentrup.com/styled/page9.html You make a beautiful guitar, Pat! Thank you, Haans. It's good to know you're still hovering around the interweb, watching over us, keeping us in line. I like those Gibson and Larson shapes a lot, though my next iteration will probably have a wider waist to match my own as it ages. Bobc wrote: Pat how do you get such a good fit around the diamond volute? Bob, Well, if I had done the real birdbeak joint that this style volute descended from, it could have just been tucked under the pointed end of the volute. Since I didn't make a birdbeak, it took some precise trimming of the veneer. When I glued the veneer on, it actually crept up the slope of the volute a little bit. Then I trimmed it with a chisel laid flat on the headstock. A bit of careful sanding got me a clean line. |
