My second guitar will be identical to my first, but hopefully I won't make the same mistakes twice. It is a 25" scale slope D based on the J45 body shape, but with the lower bouts rounded off to please my eye. The top bracing will be 1937 Martin dread, while the back bracing will remain Gibson J45. Honduran mahogany back, sides and neck, european spruce top, adirondack bracing, ebony fretboard and bridge. Bolt-on neck, 25' top radius, 15' back radius. |

I tucked the tone bars and finger braces, but not the bridge plate. |

You're putting the rest of us to shame already, Casey. I still haven't cleared up my workbench from wrapping Christmas gifts! |

No worries, plenty of time! I am an engraver and my business slows down for a few weeks after Christmas, so I have been taking advantage of that. |

Mixing Gibson and Martin bracing?? Are you trying to tear a hole in the space time continuum? |

I'm telling you, you mix Gibson and Martin bracing and a wormhole will open up and suck you and the guitar into it. Scientific fact. Made up science, but that's not the point! Posted using something. |

You need to change the title of your thread to "Casey's how to build a guitar in a week thread". You are moving on! |

I know it's not a race, but I really would like to take it to MerleFest. I just hope that working quickly will not lead to a catastrophic mistake. |

You'll be finishing your 5th. by the time I figure out which end of the truss rod sticks out where! Alex |

I may need to dissappear in the cellar shop this evening and glue up some laminated back braces - no advantage apart from using up some spare cedar and they look pretty. This challenge is a great idea as it means we have to get off our backsides and build - although after the hassle I had posting afew simple pics, what posting a video will be like + recording synchrinized sound clips.... |

My peghead templates taper to the nut width and the nut will sit on the peghead plane. I wanted this guitar to have a 1 23/32" nut, but I nicked the neck a bit with the router. Rather than fill or patch, I decided to go with a 1 11/16" nut. Oh, well. |

As you can see, Tony, there are more Martin elements going on here. It's basically a Martin in Gibson clothing. I figure December 21, 2012 came and went without any fireworks, so what's the worst that could happen? |

Also, you have too many jigs for your second build. Since I have virtually no jigs, and I am building 9 and 10 right now, I am very upset about that. You need to use fewer jigs and mess up more. Otherwise, it's no fun at all. |
