http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_C-gIEsE74 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XeiLvpqTbM Pictures: Materials: Style: Soprano ukelele based on a Martin model (forgot which) Top: Low grade Sitka spruce, purchased in Taiwan from a supplier who supplies low end wood to low end producers (costs about 6 dollars, for guitar sized top, but was rejected due to excessive runout) Back/side: Asian Padauk (the whole billet costs about 30 dollars, and I had to resaw it myself) Fingerboard and bridge: Macassar Ebony (got it free, the fingerboard was rejected because I goofed on the fret position when using it for guitars, the fingerboard costs 10 dollars) Neck wood: Scrap lauan found on the side of the street, laminated with scrap padauk and wood veneers Fingerboard dots: Plastic (about 3 dollars) Binding: Curly maple (came from a low grade maple side) Total cost: about 45 dollars or so, the tuner was free because it was taken off of a junk guitar. |

#6 Comfyfoot Tenor Ukulele Based on Hana Lima plans $25 Top: Douglas Fir stair tread stock Back, Sides, Neck, FB, Bridge: Walnut Tuners: Grover $25 Strings: $5 Bolt on neck hardware: $5 The wood was all stuff I had around as leftovers from other projects, so I will value it as I did when purchased, walnut at $8/bf, the VG fir at $12, there can't be more then 3 bf of wood used even with the waste, so: Wood 3 bf @ 10/bf $30 Total: $90 Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=10132&t=35212 The instrument was sold to the musician in the video, Ryan Marchand, part of the deal was for him to make some videos and sound clips, he has made quite a few with my instruments since: Ryan Marchand youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/user/vlostsoul?feature=watch |

Wow, you guys were quick to post. :-) And you built some awesome instruments! Well done, lads. My "Campfire Mandolin" thread chronicles the story of my efforts. It's fascinating reading that's guaranteed to cure insomnia. Here's a link to a humble video: https://vimeo.com/43306559 Thanks again for wrangling everything, Jim. This was super fun! George :-) (Listed as #2 in the polling thingy above.) P.S. Here's a pretty picture to help dress up my entry: |

For the record, I voted for Alan. It was a tough choice, but I just love the tone of that Weissenborn. Hope everyone had fun building their instrument. I think they are all awesome. |

Remember the criteria, fun and creative, we each had the most fun and creativity on our own build, so vote for all the fun and creativity you had. |

This was a lot of fun, all of the instruments are really nice, and I think reflect our personalities well. Part of the fun is that we are from all over, but it would be fun to all be in the same place and raise a glass together, I may just go do that later. Thanks for the build threads, I enjoyed all of this. Thanks to whoever it was other then me to vote for me, Rob |
