So as I wait for the lacquer on my quilted maple guitar to cure, I've finally got around to making progress on this one I started last year! Its pretty much the sister guitar to that one, with an EI rosewood back and sides and a WR cedar top. It has the same adjustable neck system and carbon reinforcement. The bracing ended up slightly different - I don't like doing stuff I've done before, so this is more like double X bracing. I also did away with the longitudinal back braces as I don't know what effect they really have. So here it is up to where we are at the moment... Routing the rosette Closeup of my semi-segmented rosette Finished! For those who didn't see my other thread, this is my adjustable neck system, based on the method Todd Rose uses (with his permission). The neck sits on a tripod type system of grub screws and bolted on as normal. To adjust the angle, you simply have to adjust the screws in the neck block... No more neck resets! The fingerboard is elevated above the level of the soundboard too. Carbon tubes reinforcing the heel |

Now to the body... Gluing up the cutaway Cool shot through the window Well this was all still a long time ago, so heres this one and the quilted maple one together Heres the double X top bracing before voicing. Unfortunately I didn't really document this one that well, so I don't have any picures of the finished thing And its all glued up! |

I like it! I also think your shop-made dremel routing jig is pretty nifty, too. I've never had guts enough to try a segmented rosette and I don't always like them, but I think yours looks very nice. Straight ahead and keep the progress pictures coming. |

Thanks! I'm not actually too keen on this one. I think its too busy, without some sort of theme to tie it together. I much prefer the one I did on the Quilted maple guitar. Segmented rosettes really aren't that hard. Just remember to stop the router before getting to a line - if you don't you can just try one the next time! I cut the ends with a scalpel against a steel rule. The mitred purfling is a bit of a fiddle to get right though - I still haven't got it down perfectly yet. |
