Post subject:  advice needed re Black Limba side with worm hole!

Hi, I am hoping you fine folk can give me a bit of advice!

I am about to start a build using black limba for the back and sides. I am sanding the sides to thickness and notice I have a worm hole in it. This comes to approximately where the cutaway section would be. It is a venetian cutaway and the hole will land at around the sharp external bend. I did consider turning the wood around so the hole was at the lower bout, but the figuring of the wood suits this orientation better.

My question is should I do anything with the hole before I start bending (using a hot pipe), and if so what should I do? Fill with CA? Epoxy? or just leave it as is and fill with a shellac stick when finishing? I guess I am worried that the hole will lead to a crack when bending.

Hopefully this photo will come out OK!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

CA and dust.

Thanks Filippo. Should I do this before I bend it?

I had many worm holes in my black limba and I did nothing to them. It's wood, and imperfections like this should be admired, not hidden in my opinion. But, z-poxy will work fine. As will CA and dust. Plus, if the worm holes resulted in orange steaks, it's great to show them to people and explain how the worms caused the orange with their worm poop.

If you did a pointy cutaway, could you get it where the wormhole would be right at the tip, so it will be eliminated in the process of cutting the miter?

Bend with metal slats to avoid worm hole blow out.
Fill after.

If you do get blow out, it can usually be glued and clamped back down with culls.

Thanks for the replies. As an update I decided to bend without filling as I was worried that a hardened fill would lead to an increased likelihood of inducing a fracture. Everything went well as can be seen here and I will probably go with an epoxy/dust fill when finishing.

Again, thanks for the replies.
