I finished a few month ago my first guitar, the ooo kit from StewMac (I just uploaded a few pictures in the kit building forum). I think I wasn´t even finished with it when I decided to try to build a classical and ordered a rosewood/cedar kit. I kind of show a addictive behavior it seems. Only problem was I didn´t notice the kit was unserviced. So I had a lost of raw material for a guitar and I didn´t have a clue how to build a guitar from it. I just had the cincia plans by Liutaio Mottola from his web site.
Being afraid to ruin the set I decided to build a "pre" guitar from less expansive wood to see how to avoid the most obvious mistakes. The only prefabricated wooden parts were the rosetta, the bridge and the neck (but as I broke the heel when mounting the neck to the soundbox, I had to rebuild the heel, so part of it is build by me). Before I started with the guitar I build several tools like a fox bender, a router binding jig, a thickness gauge, a sanding disk with 30´ and 15´ radius and so on. Sometimes I think I needed more time to build these things than I needed to build the actual guitar. I made several mistakes but managed to correct them in some way. I learned a lot during this time
Two weeks ago I finished on it. I didn´t expected not too much of the guitar, but I was still curious how it would sound. In my opinion its quite nice. Not only in its apearance but also it sounds nice. I hope I will manage to be at least as good with the rosewood set.
