Post subject:  First CNC cut mandolin top and spruce stain question

Just fine tuning my CNC to cut mandolin tops and I am using the worst/useable wood at first. I really like how the top turned out and I would like to continue but what is this gray color in the spruce. Searching on the internet, I found that it may be called blue stain fungus? anyway, the gray has contaminated completely through the top. Luckly, my other wood stash has no signs of any of this stain. Is this something I could hide with a darker stain? Stability wise, the wood feels strong and looks good. Any thoughts, thanks....

I had some pinkish stains on a spruce top that ended up cracking a few years later. This is probably something different but I'd use it for practice only just in case. Lot of time put into making a mandolin.

You won't be able to hide it, however, much of the worst will be covered by fretboard extension (I'd be sure to put "Florida" on it) and pickguard. Add strings and it won't be that bad, or make it a black top.

Actually, the more I thought about it, a black top with red/brown burst on the back is pretty dang nice, or a black burst on back is good too.
