Wow, stunning work! The thicker binding on the sound port, I think it's the Blackwood. How do you bend that? It is multiple pieces laminated together? I tried doing something similar in a test piece but couldn't get a thick piece to bend at that tight radius. Thanks for sharing your pics. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Gorgeous instrument, I love your use of the blackwood, your binding and purfling scheme. The heel cap detail looks stunningly good! I love how the radius on the end wedge looks. I like the bridge and the string termination block. Sorry to say, there are a lot of details in tenor that I will need to steal. |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Sound port binding has been an evolution and I finally found a method I'm happy with. Starts with cutting the binding and a backing piece on my laser. Attachment: soundport binding.jpg Then add purfling to the binding. Attachment: soundport binding-2.jpg For where I place my soundport there needs to be two bends in the binding. One for the waist and another at the opposite end to conform to the upper bout. Niether is very sever but if they aren't there then nothing will fit. Place in position and trace around. Attachment: soundport binding-3.jpg Attachment: soundport binding-4.jpg Cut out sound port and fit binding much like you would with any sort of inlay. Attachment: soundport binding-6.jpg The same treatment is done to bending the backing veneer. Hard to see in this image but it is bent at each end. Attachment: soundport binding-5.jpg Glue it in place on the inside of the instrument. Attachment: soundport binding-7.jpg More cleanup to do, but you get the idea. |
