Hi all, it's been awhile since I've been online, but I believe I was one of the first 100 members of this forum. Lol. Anyhow, I'm looking for recommendations to buy a uke when I visit Hawaii and Kauai. All I know is I want a nice Koa uke, and bonus points if I can bring it home with me in april.

You looking for a builder, or a shop/store?

Brick & mortar (& online) in Haleiwa is The Ukulele Site. Shawn Yacavone was only online but I think is starting to schedule by appointment, Ukulele Friend.

On Ukulele Underground, in the Lounge, is a list of 808 (Hawaii) builders.

Now there's a flash from the past! I remember you from the early days, though I didn't join until late '05.

One of the most respected builders in the islands is Bob Gleason of Pegasus guitars. He's been building ukes for 40-odd years, on the Big Island.
