Post subject:  Osage Orange thickness

I am building a Soprano Uke all from Osage Orange - poor man's Brazilian Rosewood - fairly hard and dense (kind of like me).

I have never bent it. Can I get some suggestions on top, back, and side thickness? I am thinking .070 top and back and .065 sides.

thanks

Ed

If it is as hard and dense as rw, I would go .06 for the top.

Thanks Pat - on another forum I got suggestion for .050 - .055 for the sides. I am set to go.

That sounds a little thin for the sides to me. Probably would work, but no room for error. Especially if you plan to flatten them later to prepare for bindings. I'm not familiar with how OO works, but bending at .065-.07 should be fine.

The main reason to make the top thinner is for more response. I made an all rw concert with the top at .06. It still wasn't very loud, but had great tone.

Sides ended up .060 and and top and back ended up .065

Thank all
