I've been collecting local tonewood when it's available since I started building guitars a couple of years ago. I decided to try to use some of it to make my 1st ukulele. I didn't know much about ukes going into the project so I'm not sure how good it came out. Looks kinda neat though.
Back, sides, fretboard and bridge from a giant Osage orange yard tree taken down in my neighborhood in upstate NY.
Neck, blocks and binding from a sugar maple I had to take down in my yard.
Top and all braces from an Adirondack red spruce storm downed tree found roadside 70 miles north near raquette lake.
Decorative bits of black walnut also from a yard tree in my neighborhood.

That's very handsome indeed, well done!

How does it play and sound?

I think it sounds pretty good, but I really can't play ukulele yet. I'm I high school teacher; I'll bring it to school tomorrow and have the music teacher and uke playing students give it a play during lunch and get their impressions.

Beautiful. You certainly have all the right trees falling down in your neck of the woods.

Yeah, seriously. Next thing your going to tell us that you cleared a stand of invasive ebony and recovered a giant Brazilian rosewood that a neighbor had in their back yard.

Great wood choices. That Adirondack spruce has some tight grain!

I admit that I got lucky with the Osage Orange. I almost never see them in New York but this one was hard to miss right next to the road dropping those big green fruits all over the place. When I drove past and saw a tree crew cutting it down I asked if I could take some. Benefits of having a pickup truck and knowing your trees I suppose.
