I'm still working on my first, Hana Lima Ia tenor plan, w/ Spanish heel. I want to build my next with a dovetail and saw that Luthier Tools has a dovetail jig and wondered if anyone here uses it and their thoughts on the jig. I like the StewMac jig for guitars. Thanks. |

Ben-Had wrote: Thanks, good info, jig seems a little "temperamental". Reads like they're all talking about the guitar jig. Wondering if any uke builders have used the uke dovetail jig. Thanks again. |

Thanks Aaron, nice workstation, looks like something I need to adopt. Seems most builders use the M&T, wonder why it's preferred over a dovetail. I've built two guitars using the StewMac jig and like the idea of the dovetail neck joint. Still very much in the "infant" stage of building instruments, a carpenter since the '80's, need all the help I can get. |

Couple of guys from the BIUG came over last year (or was it the other year) and took notes of the jig. Not sure if its still there, but pics were posted on their site. Its loosely based on Robby O'Brien's neck angle jig, which can be found everywhere. Personally it took me long enough to do a M&T, much less a dovetail, which is a much harder joint to execute, double angles notwithstanding. My path went from butt, to bolt on, to current. I'll stay here for a while. |
