Post subject:  Everyday items we use in building " Pillow "

There have been several threads on everyday items we use in building and we dont necessarly have to rehash all those , however we can , no law against it . In those threads I dont ever remember seeing what I have been using for the last 3 weeks or so.

The wifie bought us new pillows and I Thunked , HUH I bet that would make a good surface to lay a "finished" or partially finished build . So I got the old pillows and too them to my sanctuary "lol" and have been working with them for a few weeks . For example laying a guitar " top side down" can cause scratches in the soft top woods if not carefull and what do ya know , pillow stopped that .

Anyone else use Pillows yet ? What other ideas have you tried ?

Howdy, Wud.
On one of my benches I have a scrap of carpet cut to fit the bench top. Nothing new in that. But I also have a ratty, dirty, quilted piece of mattress pad that I can lay flat, or folded, as needed. I can even wrap instrument parts in process if I want to leave the shop for a few days. It's literally like putting them to bed for a lengthy nap while I am otherwise occupied. I do think your pillow idea has some good potential. Hmmmmmmm....
I'm thinking........

I use offcut pieces of berber type carpet for topping benches and the table saw for general work with the raw wood. But I also top that bath towels for finish work or on finished instruments. Best of all they are only about $1.50 from the local thrift store, cheaper in "challenged colors" like pink. eek
