I am working on my paduak Mando and I would like to use that material for the fretboard dots . I have searched several places and came up empty . Does anyone make padauk Dowels or Plug/plug cutters ?

Any Suggestions would be appreciated . Last resort is try and hand cut them .

Would like to get to 1/8"

James,
How many do you want? Let me know I'll send them your way.

Actually... I'll just be cutting plugs. About 1/2" long each so you can slice off your desired thickness. How many would you like?

Dots... made with a counter bore bit with the 1/8" drill bit removed... go figure!

Have you got anyone close with a laser engraver/cutter? malls, gift store, bookstore, friend

Childs play if you do.

Simply take them the material thinned to thickness, place masking tape over the material and burn/engrave to desired size ( you may need some backup material if they are really small so they don't fall through the cutting mat). You may need to supply a vector file....... Corel, Turbocad, Autocad, AI or Rhino, or some other vector producing program of what you want.

I have a little trick that I like to use for just this kind of problem. Hopefully it'll help you out!

Take a small piece (any shape) of scrap that is just slightly larger than the size of the dot you want. Now take a drill bit the size of the dot you want. With a dot of CA, glue the piece to the end of the drill bit opposite of the cutting end. Put the bit upside down in a drill press and get it spinning! Now you can take a file, or a sanding block of some sort to the edge of the spinning scrap piece. It'll come out to a perfect circle of the perfect size!
