Hello everybody ! :)

After my third electric guitar (viewtopic.php?t=21584), I'm starting a new project, a soprano ukulele, a Christmas gift for my wife (I'd better to hurry up).

Top and braces : Engelmann spruce
Back and sides : Ziricote
Fretboard and headplate : ebony
Black and white MOP inlays on the headstock
Neck : spanish cedar
Orange and blue maple purflings and flamed maple bindings
Tuners : grover
Rosette : Green abalone purfling + Orange and blue maple purflings

"Ours" means "Bear" in french... ;)

Here is a plan : http://www.lutherie-amateur.com/jojobil ... oulele.pdf

Some home made spool clamps :

Image

The top, back and the full set :

Image

First side bent (with an ibex iron) :

Image

The backstrip (flamed maple binding + orange and blue maple veneer) :

And these afternoon's work, gluing the tail and neck blocks, I use friendly plastic for the inner mold :

Still a lot to do before Christmas... [uncle]

Comments and tips are welcome of course... ;)

See you,

Ben

Ben,
That is some striking ziricote... any more of that hiding around? Get that neck carved and I think you'll be in business for Christmas. Can't wait to see and hear the finished product.

Huhu... I bought three planks (0.6" thick) to a veneer mill, I re-saw each board in two sets... Two OM and two dread or even jumbo size sets... ;)

It seems possible. Laurent Brondel built a concert uke to bring to woodstock in only 3 days.

Hi all,

Well, I had a tuff week at work, so I didn't spent time in my "shop"... [headinwall]

These afternoon, I worked on the rosette :

Blue and orange maple veneer and abalone :

For a first attempt, I'm quite satisfied, even if the abalone joints aren't very tight... but I didn't think I'll spent so much time on it... :| [uncle]

Have a nice evening,

Ben
