Post subject:  Wood Identity for New Mandola

I bought this off ebay , which turned out good this time . Usally Im a bit skeptic on buying from ebay . It was listed as "Paduck" Payed $10.00 for 2 pieces . However in looking at stuff here I wonder if it isnt " Bubinga " Can anyone tell from the pics . The Sawdust is real fine and almost bright orange .

What do I have here

I'm no expert on either wood, but the photos look more like padauk to me.

That looks like padauk to me too. Your description of the sanding/sawdust sounds right too. When I resawed before I had my big dust collection system my whole shop was orange :P Great wood, I really like its acoustics. It can be prone to spliting along the grain so watch that when bending, leave the sides a bit long so if they check in a bit it won't matter.

Yep , Its paduck ! Whats the diffrence then in Paduck and bubinga ? I have seen Pics of Bubinga that look almost exactly the same ? Are they per chance the same " Family"
