I think you'll need some support for the string tension or the gourd will fold up. I've seen gourd instruments where the neck extended under the top to the butt end. That handles the string load and gives a place to tie the string ends too. The gourd is not structural but just forms the resonator box. Maybe you can glue in a stick or dowell from end to end, just under the top (but not touching the top) |
