I'm running dual humbuckers and want to coil tap them. I'm using a single volume, a single tone, and a on/on/on mini toggle switch. I've never done ANY wiring before so this is a bit ambitious I know...

Anyway, here is my wiring diagram. Currently, the switch works, but both pots seem to be acting as tone as the volume pot doesn't effect volume. Anybody see what I need to tweak to make this work?

Hey Chris.
I've been looking at what ever wiring diagrams I have, and looked in a guitar I wired
up years ago, which is exactly what you are after, and of course, mine's completely different.
There are different ways to get the same results though. Your diagram just looks off to me.
Where did you get it? From the Lollars? David Schwab knows a lot about this stuff.

I think that's what I used (sorta).

Thanks Steve! This fixed this volume pot issue.

Now for the new issues:
1. The pots operate "backwards". As in less volume in the clockwise direction, tone is swapped in directions as well. So how do I "swap" it?
2. The pots don't have a smooth action. By that I mean there seems to be a small area in which there is a large amount of change and then the rest of the rotation of the knob does almost nothing. Any ideas what's going on here?

On the volume pot, switch the outside lugs. Viewed from the bottom as your drawing shows the signal goes on the left and ground the right. On the tone pot you want the signal in the center and the cap on the right.
On your second problem, you have standard pots which have a linear resistance. You'll need audio pots which have a logarithmic resistance.
Also, you pickups are permanently coil tapped with this configuration and will only act as single coil pickups. To have humbuckers and tap them when you like, you'll need another switch or two depending on your desired setup. Go to guitarelectronics.com and you'll find dozens of wiring diagrams and they'll even sell you all the parts you need.

I thought with this configuration the “push” position on the pots would be humbucker and the “pull” position would be single coil. Is that not correct?

I didn't realize you had a push pull pot. That will get the job done.

Followed your link, that helps a bit. StewMac sells audio taper pots so that shouldn't be the problem causing your volume to act the way it does.

Hmmm.

And paying closer attention to your drawing, which helps even more, the cap is on the proper lug of your tone pot. I hope I didn't cause too much confusion.
