I found enough bits and pieces under the bench and in the wood bin to put together a telecaster clone. Basic specifications are

- mahogany neck and body
- maple top and head veneer
- rosewood binding, fretboard and knobs
- Gotoh shinny stuff
- StewMac Golden Age pickups
- lacquer

The one interesting thing about it is that its completely chambered

I'm sure that has some affect on the sound, it certainly does make it light. Total weight on my little postage scale is 5 pounds 13 oz.

Looks great, Freeman....I really like the weight on this...I think my tele clone weighs
close to 10 lbs.....good job.

I'm sold on chambered solid bodies. My LP clone is 9 lb 3 oz, my chambered one is 7 lb 10 and I could have taken a lot more wood out of it. We did some back to back tests between the two Lesters (they have the same pups and electronics) - we agreed that there might be some sound difference but really couldn't describe it and certainly didn't feel that one was better than the other.

One thing that I notice about this tele-thing is that it has more of an "acoustic" sound - strummed without being plugged in it sounds louder than my solid LP. Obviously there is no attempt at making the top move and there are no f-holes or anything to pump air but it must be doing something. Don't know how it affects the plugged sound, if it does, pretty much sounds like a telecaster to me.
