I’ve got a neck from a 2013 Charvel pro mod guitar that I’m putting on one of the bodies I constructed. It’s a one-piece maple neck with what I believe is an oil finish. I’m not fond of the look of maple necks and prefer the look of rosewood or ebony. If I wanted to stain the fretboard, would I have to strip the finish off, then stain it, or could I just stain it like it is? |

Yes, you will need to strip the finish off to apply the stain then refinish to protect the stain. Going to be a PITA with the frets in.... getting the finish off all the way to the frets so you don't leave white lines of maple after the stain. IMHO, find a rosewood neck if it bothers you. |
