Someone ordered a baritone solid body steel string ukulele. It's supposed to be like a soprano guitar. I'm building from scratch and have gone with a offset Fender style body and Fender style neck. I'm using a 19" scale and I'm looking for a 13.5 inch spoke truss rod. I was wondering if instead of a truss rod if it'd make more sense to use the carbon fiber reinforcing rods that Stewmac sells. Would they keep the neck from bending from the strings. If anyone has an opinion on this or any other tips to building one of these I'd really appreciate it. This is a first for me. Thanks |

I've built two (one tenor, one baritone) with no truss rods. No problems with relief on either one, 4 or 5 years old now. I built them with a 1" thick neck and leave the back flat with two facets carved on the sides. Seems odd at first but most find it more comfortable to play. I've some experience with the CF rods, I would think you'd be fine with this option. A compression rod is easy to make and would be more than enough on one of these with a normal neck carve. Mark Blanchard makes custom length two way rods, don't know if he does the spoke nut. |
