started it 3 days ago. I'm very excited about this one. Mahogany body. Flamed maple top. Flamed ash neck. Walnut fret board. |

Good start Kent. Keep us posted on your build. Happy to see it is your work and not some "kit". |

An Ash neck got my attention. Maybe nothing new except under my rock. I don't get out much. Looking forward to seeing more of it and looks like a great start. I've made quite a few of them and thought I'd share the one I built for myself. I wound the P-90's and went with a blender rather than a switch. I screwed up sizing the tuner holes- for the http://www.schaller-electronic.com/hp514510/Schaller-introduces-Da-Vinci.htmso a couple aren't as smooth as they should be...(drill press bad- block under head got chips under it while drilling so a couple of holes were a little slanted)..a set sure worked out good on a different build...I think they look cool too. Over priced though. I did remove some body wood but it still turned out heavy...a little over 9lbs. |

Looking great Kent! If you will be spraying nitro lacquer, apply a couple of coats of shellac as the sealer. I just tried this, and man, it really makes the figure pop under the lacquer! I used wood dust and shellac as a grain filler on the African Mahogany, it worked very well. I'll be using shellac under nitro for all new builds. I bought the Zinsser dewaxed sealer. I see you will be installing a pick guard. I don't like them, so I expect something really cool that is worth covering the Maple top! I saw a pick guard a feller made from a vinyl LP. It was cooler than most things. I'm trying to finish two Teles by xmas, but the weather has not been spray-friendly. I look forward to seeing more pics. Good work! Dan |
