Hi, I am building a Guitar for the first time and have ran into a bit of a problem. It's a Les Paul copy and I will be putting a Vintage wireing setup in it. The problem is that the Humbuckers I bought (Shodow SH681N and SH681B) only have three wires and I can't find a diagram anywhere on how to install them.
All the information I have with the pickups....

Red.....North Coil Start (Humbucker output)
White....Series Link. (single Coil output )
Shield.....Ground.
Hope Someone Can Help.

Hi David.

If that's the only problem you're having with your first build...congrats!

I would wire them up with the Red as + the White with the ground.

Plenty of diagrams ( I linked one in the thread close to this one) and you'll be looking for "2 conductor" (not 4 conductor) diagrams with whatever controls you're going to use.

I know they include "shielded two conductor output for coil taping" in the ad but I don't have a clue what the Brits mean. "Coil taping" is done and offered but it's not what I'd call common compared to "coil splitting" ( which is one of the reasons they offer 4 wire HB's) so they may be talking about something I don't know about and I sure don't know it all.

You have "single coil output" written...I sure don't think you're going to have that option without modifying the coil leads. You'll need the start and finish wires for each coil to split them. Not impossible to do but you need all for lead wires to get there. And "series link" ? Well series/parrallel is really about how both of those pickups are wired in relation to each other.

You could use this diagram -and wire the red as they show the black and the white and ground as they show the green and bare- forget about the red and white they show- that's the two wires you don't have.

Hope I got all this right for ya...(at work and typed this fast) good luck.

Cheers Michael, Unfortunately it's not my only problem, it's just one I know is coming up. Lol
At the moment I can't get any coats of clear Lacqur on due to humidity 90%. And I'm sure will have a few more dramas. But looking forward to the challenge.

Thanks for your answer, I will have a look at diagram and see if it makes things clearer.
