Hey fellers, what is a good brand of tape? I have not been cutting with templates lately due to mishaps. Thanks, Dan |

I just buy whatever double-sided carpet tape the hardware store across the street has in stock. |

The best I have found is the 3M tape StewMac sells, I went through several different store brands but on trying this tape it was much superior in its hold. I do a lot of template operations and have not had any movement issues with it. Can be a bit of a pain to separate but this is a good thing in my mind. Fred |

This question made me smile. I've been using Sellotape brand ever since I started building guitars in New Zealand. Readily available at home improvement centres in a variety of widths: http://www.sellotape.co.nz/products/stationery/tapes/double-sided/63-double-sided-general-purpose.aspx I never thought it was anything special, until I tried to buy something similar in Canada and the US, and really couldn't find anything comparable in home improvement or stationery stores. I went back to NZ last Christmas for the birth of my grandson, and stocked up on Sellotape while I was there. |

Yes! I had to cut out a neck and replace it on a bass due to tape that slipped while routing. Will check it out. |

While I use 3M tape I also try to back it up with a screw or clamp. |

The best I have used is the 3M 9589. That is what I buy for students at work and it has never failed. My home shop budget though usually goes for the hardware store carpet tape And even with the frown it still works great. |

I reckon I'll order some from Stewmac. I have used carpet tape, but it's a hassle getting the goo off. Thanks! Dan |

I've been using Fasttape from Fastcap. It sticks great, kind of a pain to peel the paper off the one side and really a pain to get off your wood. Sticks like crazy though, I think it's sold as adhesive for applying cabinetry edgebanding, and it claims to be permanent. It's not, if you have a putty knife and a scraper, lol. |

I use Itape 591. It's like double sided masking tape. It is strong, relatively easy to remove, doesn't shred and leaves no residue. I get it from McMaster, their p/n is 76405A12 for 3/4". Kevin Looker edit: It's relatively easy to remove unless you put the parts in a vacuum press DAMHIKT |

Another vote for the StewMac tape...good stuff. It can be a little work separating the pieces and removing the tape but I found it's easier to roll the tape off rather than trying to pull it off. |

I use the StewMac tape. A little Naptha will make the tape release easily. |
