Post subject:  New Project - Looking for some Recommendations

Hey All,

The warm weather is finally hitting Toronto so I can get back into the garage and start a few new projects. I picked up this nice piece of Flame Maple which has been "baked" in that new process.

I have am thinking of a Super Strat type of guitar for 80's Rock. Any suggestions on the neck? I prefer maple necks with Ebony boards but I know maple bodies can be very bright and would this combination work? Any suggestions for the Neck and pickups?

Also, can you dye Baked Maple or would I need to go with an oil finish?

Rick

i dont see what baked maple would stop any dye from working, as far as a neck yes a maple neck with a maple body would be very bright but it could be a good thing, all you can do it try which is what we all do! :-)
as far as pups go find some buckers with alot of midrange in them.....

I wouldn't worry so much about brightness as I would worry about the weight of the thing. Unless you don't mind a heavy guitar. I don't mind a heavy guitar personally, but most people are flat out opposed. I built an SG style guitar from solid Zebrawood a couple years back. Since then, I've tried to be more cognizant of weight. :)
