huh...was tripping around Sunday and popped into GC and was looking at some Les Paul Standards for concepts on their construction...was rather miffed at the neck to body joint where at the fret board there was a solid 1/32" gap (filled) and it was tight at the heel...I guess what do you expect for an instrument that only lists for $2,500? |

Sure wish I still had my 69 Custom. New ones juSt don't feel the same. Btw, where the heck is everybody? Like a ghost town here. Maybe everyone up North is still recovering from the cold weather? |

You cant even get a real Gibson feel anymore unless you buy custom shop, or better ,,,, build it yourself.... my last 2 were 54 custom reissue.. and 68 Standard - I forget what they called it but it was "worn in" .... oh yeah custom shop authentic or something like that - $3200 and $5400 respectively.... just too pricey for what they were... this was well over a decade ago.... I'm building sort of a Melody Maker as a precursor for an LP. The African Mahogany is heavy as all heck and does not machine very well. One pickup and volume control. I have Maple for the top. Dan |

I build my own now.. cheers charliewood Yeah, mine had those flat low nubs for frets. Loved it. Did. not have scratch on it. Ex sold it for $550. Sold my Fender tube amp for $25. I think mine was called the fretless wonder. |

I have Maple for the top. Dan I've dealt with this wood quite a bit... the density variation in African mahogany (Khaya spp.) is pretty amazing. I've had pieces as low as 1.8 lb/board foot and pieces as heavy as 3.8. For some context, that equates to routed tele bodies w/ no hardware from 3lb to almost 7lb. It's definitely a wood that you should ask about the weight before buying. |
