Been working on a Tele this winter as shop temperature permits.
I'm using some unknown variety of African Mahogany for the neck and body, Mesquite fretboard, and a nice hunk of Chinaberry (Melia azedarach) for the top. Still need to level the frets. I'm going to try an amber tint on the African stuff - it's pretty boring as is. The Chinaberry is more of a tan color than the picture depicts and it will get a clear finish.
Nothing to write home about, just wanted to share.
Dan

Amber would be my first choice for tints with African M. You get such a wonderful gold as a result.

Hey no fair. You showed the Chinaberry top and the Mesquite fretboard, but not the hog back this thread is named for.

Well, Chinaberry is in the Mahogany family, so I consider it a Faux hog.
Besides, that African stuff is boring: kind of looks like dark Balsa wood.

BTW, I like the look of the mesquite fretboard. Reminds me of some grannadillo I used recently.

Finally started putting some lacquer on this rascal.
I ended up applying amber dye to the top to blend it with the A. Mohogany.
Can't wait to hear how it sounds. I've never owned a Strat, but I have always dug the Strat sound.

Three single coils would be best for Strat sound... for those 2 and 4 switch positions...

Hmm, good point. I figured the middle pickup would be like the middle position on a Tele that I never use. Of course, not owning a Strat I would not know what I'd be missing.

Finished the build today.
Pretty pleased with it. Still need to do a setup.
I applied an amber dye to all wood to tie them together.
Wilkinson hardware, GFS Strat pups.
Mesquite fretboard.
