Also check Thomastik Acousticore with nylon cores for a nice upright like tone. They are very different from steel core strings. The feel under the fingers is like wound classical guitar strings. Very low tension and when you play them fingerstyle you feel them like "rolling" when you pluck them... But to my ear they sound much better through piezo pickups than conventional brass round wound steel core strings. For nylon tape wound I would go with the Rotosound Tru Bass 88. They deliver a very convincing uprighty tone even through magnetic pickups.. To my ear conventional brass round wound strings have the sound of an acoustic guitar tuned lower. That's not bass!! Lots of demos on youtube |

Upright bass strings (ball end) are tricky in that they must be wound around the tuning machines on the silk portion of the ends where the strings are thinner. The strings would be destroyed if one tried to wind around the sound generating portion. Herein lies the problem as standard acoustic basses do not provide the necessary length for this dynamic. Additionally, the ball end begins with several inches of silk that would not work on a standard bridge - the silk portion would ride over the bridge. |

Yo Wud Me likes the nylon wound strings...but on every set me has ever had, the G string always unwinds....still playable but off it comes.* blessings ?adma * NOTE: this is the truth, the whole truth and nothin but the truth and any Freudian interpretations are your own hallucinations, an indication of your state of consciousness and as such were intended. |
