Post subject: | Neck through neck angle |
Hello! I´m new here, so if my question has been answered elsewhere (I could not find it) please direct me there. Also, for answering, links will do for me I am building my first neck through. I have built a couple of strats, and a tele (bodys only), but now I have received the woods from my local lumber salesman. I have now encountered a the neck angle issue. I´m thinking about using a wrap around bridge, and want to know if there is some kind of online recource or calculator for determening the neck angle. I have tried to determine this by using a straight edge, but i cannot get a clear measuring with my degree-dial (?) as I have not yet startet to plane the neck since im worried about taking too much of. Any help is well appreciated Kristoffer, Norway |

There are other methods and calculations you can use, but doing this at least once will be great to not just teach you how to do it, but also how to understand the 'why' questions associated with it. Chris +1000. I made the mistake of not doing this on my first guitar. I never made that mistake again. Each time I build something new, the first step is to draw it all out full scale so that I know what I need to do before I start. Best advice I was ever given, and like a lot of first timers, I ignored it at my own peril. |

Thanks! I actually have it drawn out, but it did not occur to me that I could measure it there. Thanks again |

I'll add two quick comments - first you can get all of the dimensions for your bridge, tailpiece, pups, and even frets from someplace like StewMac - look for the "specification" tab. Second, if you use a drafting program like AutoCAD it will give you the angle very accurately - you can actually draw your frets, nut and bridge action heights, and the software will tell you the angles. Take that one step farther and plot the neck to body joint, cut it out and glue it to some cardboard and you have a template for cutting the angle. |
