A friend dropped off his 8-string Ibanez to me to switch just one pickup. The stock pups are active, but they run on two AA batteries. He wants to swap just the bridge pup for now with an EMG 808. This is the only active setup I've ever run into that doesn't run on 9v. Is this going to be possible at all, or should he wait until he can get the neck pup too? I certainly don't mind giving it a shot, but seeing the two AA's in there was a bit shocking, really. Thanks

What battery do the EMG's run on?

Stock Ibanez is passive pickup with the batteries powering the circuitry for the boost switch. 808 needs 9v battery and 25k pots. You can convert to the emg setup and still use passive neck pickup, but it makes the neck pickup sound below average

I know he's not really using the neck pickup much now anyway because of how muddy it sounds. It does have a stereo jack and one 25k pot already in the guitar, doesnt seem consistent with passive pups, but maybe the active tone circuit is the explanation for that.
EMG' s run 9v, sorry
