I had some old templates that were made out of lexan, but the bit used to get hot and melt and instantly ruin the templates. This time, I had them made out of 10 gauge steel. I can use them to help press the top to the body. And, the bit will never get hot and these should never wear out. I had these water jetted out. Finally a cure to my template blues! |

They are very heavy. Also have to be careful not to let the bit catch on them, but that should not be a problem. |

Those templates are no good. They are for electric guitars. |

I dont make acoustics, never interested me, and I don't feel like making the molds for them. |

I was just playing around. They are nice looking templates. Should last more than a lifetime! |

I love acoustics, and would love to have the molds and knowledge magically appear, . But I can just now build an electric I feel worthy of selling, acoustics are a whole new monster and I have tons of respect for those that do it. In my opinion building an electric is much easier than an acoustic. |

Cool, I use acrylic sheet for templates myself, like the kind of stuff you can get from Lowes or Home Depot. Then use a bearing router bit to cut the blank. The best part about using acrylic is you can easily mod it to a different shape. Need a wider neck pocket? no problem, just glue a thin strip of acrylic to the edge of the blank with some weld-on cement from stewmac. |

The bearings can still get hot and blow up on you. I use SAE 10W-30 to lubricate them. I have no problem with my acrylic templates either, the bearing stops spinning when it touches the template and doesn't get hot. |

Friction from the bit cutting the wood causes heat which travels throughout the entire bit, bearing gets hot, melts the plastic. |
